The legendary Criollo Chuao cocoa bean is considered “the” finest and has been awarded an appellation of origin under the title Cacao de Chuao. Accessible only by boat, the Chuao bean is grown in remote Venezuelan plantations by the members of a mostly female farm cooperative. The annual production averages 20 tons and is distributed to the world’s finest chocolatiers.
